The Very Beginning of the Metro Detroit Disc Golf Scene

So just exactly how did the Metro Detroit disc golf scene begin? After researching this topic and a few interviews later the following is what we have been able to piece together. The local Metro Detroit disc golf scene began to form in 1981 when many locals started meeting regularly to play at Raintree Park and Stony Creek Metropark. In mid-summer of 1981 Starr Jaycee Park in Royal Oak was installed.  Jim Kenner (#292) and Gail McColl (#240) were two years into the start of Discraft Inc. They hosted an annual picnic where veteran freestyle and ultimate players got together at Kensington Metropark.  Few people got invited to this event and Joe Eagan (#2427) and Bob Huston (#2354) were among them. Soon they started collaborating on golf disc purchases from Wham-O who was the prime weighted golf disc producer at the time.
